How did they do it?

How did they turn
The purest of pearl,
Into a jagged rock?
How did they change
Midflight, a peaceful dove,
Into an ominous crow?
How did they twist
The safety of modesty,
Into the trappings of a muzzle?
How did they turn
The brightest of gold,
Into burnt black coal?
How did they change
The greenest of gardens,
Into starving quick sand?
How did they twist
The clearest blue sea ,
Into the blackest sludge?
How did they churn
The air I breathe ,
Into green poison?
How did they drain
All the love and hope,
From our mangled red hearts?

Nice

She’s nice,
She’ll whisper as I walk away
And roll her eyes when I say
“I’ve had a bad day”;
I’m the villain in all her stories
She thinks I don’t have feelings,
After she hurt mine
And broke them;
But she’ll smile when we say hi
So I guess,
She’s nice;
He’s nice too,
He treats me like a little sister
While he watches the way I walk,
And he’s smiling every time
He asks me to quiet down,
He gave me insecurities
And self-esteem issues
In the name of friendly advice ,
But he treats me like family,
So I guess ,
He’s nice;
They’re nice,
I’ll carry their words and gazes
For the rest of my life,
But they’re well-wishers,
And they only want my best,
So I guess,
They’re nice.
