Narrow



Life offers but two options
on its menu

You can lament 
over what has been lost
in the past
for all your days
& remain
empty
(half full at best)
& forever starving

or you can forge your way
toward the future
& forage for a feast
that will fatten you
with peace & happiness

It’s all ice cream & oranges

& the fine line between

Of Heavy Hands & Feet




Because (but) I don’t carry
                                      (no [weighty] worries)
    a camera 
        around
            wherever I roam

I must immortalize 
      (internalize & eternalize)
             all the varied
        scenes of life

                             simply w/words
                                  oh woe is me!

           & learn to capture the mood
                     of a heron in hunting
                             underneath the bridge
                  as a waterfall seduces rain
                                from the sky in the background
                       & a green duck floats (blissfully/ignorantly) in the shallows
                                                                                                    nearby

       it is more beautiful than I
             could ever hope to describe
                    (in so/too many [few] ways)

Ten chimes at the belltower
& it’s a wonderful flight
   2 minutes & 56 seconds
          so far w/the Wim Hof Method
      & it’s an easy sigh (ready for relief/release)

                         Life’s a slice of carrot cake
                 as long as it’s made/baked
                          using all the righteous ingredients
                                 to herald spice (y salvation) and good f(l)avor

  & some would stalk
         or poach
               poor fish
        in the age of Pisces

     but others would carry
            their pails of peace
        & deliver unto the world
                Aquarius in motion

I am filled w/the fervor
of Holy Spirit Vibration
     & I am never alone
             when capturing
         snapshots of time
 
                     w/in the circle

               & outer forces/blessings
                         of prosperity 
                     upon our homes

                   & all our DNA
                                 forever after

   Dance between the blinkers
        of bright lights & despair

                where every single (simple) step
                           bears monumental consequence

Scott Thomas Outlar is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. He now lives and writes in Frederick, Maryland. His work has been nominated multiple times for both the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. He guest-edited the Hope Anthology of Poetry from CultureCult Press as well as the 2019-2023 Western Voices editions of Setu Mag. He is the author of seven books, including Songs of a Dissident (2015), Abstract Visions of Light (2018), Of Sand and Sugar (2019), and Evermore (2021 – written with co-author Mihaela Melnic). Maybe she

was just better

at advanced forms

of mathematics

and quantum mechanics

than I was,

but I could have sworn

with all my heart

that forever

meant something else

entirely.

Transcendent Language 

Love between poets

is a power that pours

from beating hearts

to create rhythms

of divine happiness

that border near the edge of madness

because of the force

by which the intensity

constantly increases

Love between poets

manifests miracles

through lines of letters

and melodies of verses

that shape the construction

of paradise on earth

Love between poets

is born

in the lungs of birds

that sing every morning

to wake the world

from a sleeping spell

with the good news

about amore’s evolution

Love between poets

defies definitions

found in dictionaries

because the language

of emotions

can never be fully captured

on the page

Love between poets

creates waves in the ocean

that carry lost ships

safely to shore

so that the message

of God’s grace

can be spread

across all lands

Love between poets

burns with the heat

of volcanic passion

and shines

with the light

of ten thousand suns

rupturing in tandem

Love between poets

offers a blueprint

to end all war

and harmonize humanity

with perfect peace

everlasting

Love between poets

is the source of salvation

that heals

the hearts and minds

of a species

ready to return

to the primordial garden

of Genesis

Morning Anthem

Your love is like the sweet glaze

of golden honey

fresh out of the hive,

dripping from comb to tongue

in waves of electric sugar

that shock my soul

into a fit of fiery passion,

pulsing through the blood in my veins

with the intensity of a hurricane

that sends each cell of the system

scurrying towards the ecstasy of a natural high,

buzzing in the front of my mind

with a thousand eruptions

of bursting bombs

that fill the neurons with an anthem of joy.

Your love is like the morning song

of a happy swallow

seeking its mate in the spring season,

chirping out a symphony

of harmonious notes

that synchronize together

to form a natural melody of amore;

a palpable vibration

of magnetic inclinations

floods the atmosphere

with the urge to fill

a nest full of eggs.
