“Green Grow” by John Grey

It would have to be a rainy day.
And the old man next door
watering his lawn
between showers.
What could we do but laugh
but then we heard the siren
and the ambulance came.
Heart attack someone said.
It began to rain again
and there was his hose
like a green snake
coiled up in green grass
and liquid still flowing
from its nozzle.
Plenty of water,
good growing weather,
As much life as a yard could stand.
